“She scares the whole residence”: slap, death threats, an aggressive neighbor in court, in Montpellier

Les avocates des parties civiles et de la défense se sont exprimées, lors de cette audience finalement renvoyée à vendredi 24 mai. Midi Libre – JEAN-MICHEL MART

Neighborhood unrest degenerates in this residence on the Route de Lodève, in Montpellier. Several residents have filed civil suits, facing the aggressive behavior of their neighbor. Additional psychiatric expertise was requested in his regard, before the hearing postponed to this Friday, May 24.

His neighbors accuse him of listening to loud music, of leaving the door to his apartment open, of leaving the gas on, of scaring them with his staff dog. In this residence on the Route de Lodève, in Montpellier, the tension between this 39-year-old woman and the other residents degenerated. She is being prosecuted for having slapped one of them, threatened another by brandishing a chair, and even uttered death threats.

Alteration or abolition of discernment ?

The suspect was arrested, placed in pre-trial detention and presented before the criminal court on April 15. A psychiatric assessment was requested. Then, during her incarceration, she was hospitalized in psychiatry, as President Olivier Sabin recalls. But during the referral hearing, this Wednesday, April 22, the court noted that the doctor did not clearly rule on the alteration or abolition of the discernment of the accused. The expert must be called upon again, with a view to the hearing being postponed again, this time to Friday May 24.

She says she is harassed by her neighbors

In her hearing, the defendant disputes the facts and asserts that it is her neighbors who are attacking her. She claims to have been harassed and to have been filmed. A neighbor reportedly captured a scene in which she screams in the street.

"She scares the whole residence", alert Me Océane Alvès- Drouin, the lawyer for the civil parties, who pleads on the security measures that the court will take while waiting for the new hearing. Music too loud, dog potentially frightening: "These are not criminal offenses", notes Me Sabine Martin, who is assisting the thirty-year-old. The prosecutor, Alain Octuvon-Bazile, is concerned to see that the person concerned tends to drink alcohol. "When we read the statements of the various victims, we are heading towards a catastrophe."

Pending Friday's hearing, with a complete psychiatric assessment, the court ordered the continued detention of the defendant.
