She “thought she was taking care of herself”: a mother sentenced for the death of her 4-year-old daughter, fed soda and formula

Ce vendredi 24 mai, dans l’Ohio, mère de 41 a été reconnue coupable d’homicide involontaire sur son enfant de 4 ans. La petite fille, nourrie au soda et au lait infantile pendant une bonne partie de sa fille, est décédée des suites du diabète.

The child’s mother pleaded guilty. This Friday, May 24, in Clermont County (Ohio), Tamara Banks was sentenced to at least nine years in prison, found guilty of the malnutrition of her 4-year-old daughter, leading to her death.< /p>

The little girl's diet consisted mainly of infant formula… and soda, reports the Cincinnati Enquirer, notably taken up by The Independent. Suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis, a complication resulting from type 1 diabetes, she had not yet received any diagnosis. Despite the worrying state of her teeth, it seems that she has never had an appointment with the dentist.

Another son in a coma

She finally passed away on January 25, 2022, at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. Indicted last July for murder, manslaughter and child endangerment, the 41-year-old mother pleaded guilty on April 25.

If Tamara declared that she "thought she would take care of her", the judge will criticized him for not having learned from his mistakes. One of his sons fell into a coma at the age of 4 due to undiagnosed diabetes.

The father also pleaded guilty. His sentence should be pronounced on June 11.
