'She was in shock': Weatherman saves Hurricane Helene victim on live TV

A weather reporter for the American Fox Weather channel interrupted his live television broadcast from Atlanta, United States, to rescue a woman trapped in a flooded car, this Friday, September 27, 2024.

Bob Van Dillen, a weather presenter for the Fox Weather channel, was live this Friday, September 27, 2024 to talk about the passage of Hurricane Helene in Atlanta, Georgia. This hurricane devastated parts of the eastern and southeastern United States and caused at least 93 deaths, according to the latest report from Agence France-Presse (AFP).

“A critical situation”

According to BFMTV, Bob Van Dillen, who was live on the Fox Weather channel, heard a woman screaming behind him. She was stuck in her car in the middle of the flood zone and was calling for help.

The weather presenter then interrupted his live broadcast. "This is a critical situation, we will contact you in a moment. I will see if I can help this woman a little more", he explained.

The woman was sitting and strapped in her car, while the water gradually rose to her neck. In the channel's footage, he can be seen rescuing the woman to safety. "She was in shock, cold and shaking", Bob Van Dillen described.

"You saved her"

He found her a few moments later, accompanied by her husband : "You saved her, thank you very much, thank you", the latter said in front of Fox Weather cameras.

“The story isn't about me, it's about the magnitude of the flooding we've had,”, the weatherman said, stressing that the most important thing to talk about was not the savage, but the damage caused by the hurricane.
