Shots fired in the Prés Saint-Jean district of Alès: two individuals are taken into police custody

The shots were heard on the afternoon of Wednesday February 21. Alerted by witnesses, the police station dispatched a crew from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) to the square, who quickly arrested suspects. Their police custody has just been extended by 24 hours. The investigation continues.

Wednesday February 21, in the Alès district of Prés Saint-Jean, gunshots were heard around 3 p.m. There were three explosions. The police were immediately alerted, with witnesses giving a description of a car with three people on board.

A shell casing discovered in the suspects' car

A crew from the anti-crime brigade (BAC) of the police station then went to the scene and, very quickly, spotted the vehicle in question, in which there were only two individuals. They were immediately arrested and taken into custody at 3:15 p.m. On board the car, a cartridge case was discovered, but not the weapon.

The prosecutor mentions "fanciful statements"

During their first hearings, the defendants declared that they had not opened fire that day, but that they had already shot at wild boars from their car. "fanciful statements", considers Abdelkrim Grini, the public prosecutor of Alès, called upon to justify the presence of powder on their clothes that the scientific police could find.

The third man is still wanted

This Thursday, February 22, in the afternoon, the suspects' custody was extended by 24 hours. The investigation, carried out into acts of violence with weapons and in meetings, continues; the third individual is still wanted. In the neighborhood where the shots were fired, the police did not find any impact.
