Slaughter of stray dogs in Aveyron: “One Voice is taking advantage of this affair to rally the population to its anti-speciesist ideology”

The media frenzy born from the decree taken by the prefecture of Aveyron authorizing the slaughter of dogs within a well-defined framework (area, schedule, conditions) in order to ;nbsp;"to protect the herds of affected or threatened breeders", is not to the taste of Larzac farmers.

In a recent press release, the association Circle 12, created in February 2017 by breeders confronted with wolf predation on their herds, denounces &quot ;bitterly" the contestation of this decree by One Voice.

"One Voice is taking advantage of this affair by riding on emotion to rally the population to its anti-speciesist ideology, by unscrupulously taking this decree out of its context, thus maintaining the divide and the animosities between, d’ on the one hand the defenders of wolves and on the other hand, those who defend their herds from attacks and thus all rural actors sensitive to the maintenance of free-range livestock farming."

We would like to state loud and clear, in order to put an end to the doubt voluntarily established that it is indeed a wolf which is causing enormous damage to our flocks (23 ewes/rams killed and 32 injured since February 1 in the area affected by the order) and not a dog.

"We are also very sensitive to the protection of dogs"

"We are also very sensitive to the protection of dogs and we do not want any of them to be killed. It is a very structured text with a limited scope in time and space. Furthermore, it targets a stray animal which would not be approachable AND which would threaten the herds being monitored. We are confident since mayors, like dog owners, have been warned of this decree. If a dog is lost, information circulates around and dogs are not killed on sight without reason, continues the press release.

Circle 12 drives the point home: "One Voice writes : « "Dogs, wolves or any other living being, we will continue to defend them against agricultural lobbies& ;hellip; » ! No One Voice does not defend « any other living being » since the 12,000 animals killed each year by wolves: sheep, calves, cows, horses, dogs, etc., eaten while still alive very often, do not seem to affect this association which, with others like ASPAS, Férus, LPO, WWF or FNE attack defensive shooting orders, thus preventing domestic animals from truly being protected from wolf attacks.

And to conclude: "Concerning the means of protecting herds, that in the Alps, 92 % of the herds attacked are protected herds . Faced with this failure of protection, shooting can bring a little more peace of mind to breeders and their herds. No one wants to shoot dogs and it is indeed wolves that attack the herds."

One Voice: “The choice of the prefect of Aveyron reveals the negligence of the State”

The wind is up against this stop. which according to her "relax slaughter conditions instead of making protections compulsory for all types of animals", the One Voice association is passing through the attack. "The choice of the prefect of Aveyron is indicative of the negligence of the’ rsquo;Éstatus on this subject. Rather than supporting breeders by training them to the implementation of protection measures, and to subsidize them to help them achieve their goals. control cows and horses, the government no longer hides its anti-wolf/pro-livestock position. He prefers to relax slaughter conditions instead of making protections compulsory for all types of animals, argues its spokesperson. "Dogs, wolves or any other living being, we will continue to defend them against agricultural and hunting lobbies ;getics. For these dogs, who may have been abandoned and struggling to survive, or are simply lost and making do as best they can, and the prefect prefers to re having them shot rather than helping them, we are attacking this ruling."
