SNCF traffic interrupted in the South-East: postponement, cancellation, refund… what to do if you have to take the train ?

This Wednesday, July 31, 2024, SNCF traffic in the South-East was interrupted due to bad weather. 80,000 passengers are affected by train blockages or cancellations. We explain what to do if you are one of them.

New breakdown at the SNCF. This time, it is not a deliberate sabotage but the result of a mini-tornado. In Burgundy-Franche-Comté in particular, the bad weather was such that it damaged the rail, road and electricity networks.

Results: 80,000 passengers are affected by cancellations or postponements. If this is your case, we explain what to do.

SNCF will contact you

If you are affected, you will be informed soon. The SNCF has announced that it will contact all passengers whose journey was impacted by today's malfunctions.

The South-East line serves the south of France from Gare de Lyon in Paris via Lyon. Then, the stations of Nice, Toulon, Marseille, Montpellier, Toulouse and Perpignan are usually connected by these TGVs.

Please note that until 5pm this Wednesday, “no trains will leave from Gare de Lyon and the LGV stations”. Moreover “Travellers are advised not to go to the station on 31 July 2024” because currently, all trains are “brought back to the station”.

Refunds and cancellations

You are advised to “postpone your trip”, ideally until after the weekend, to avoid any massive influx of travellers to the station.

In addition, you can cancel your ticket without fees if it is affected by this weather-related outage: “If you were to travel between today and August 7, 2024 with TGV INOUI, your ticket is exchangeable and refundable without fees from the site or agency from which you made the purchase”, the company undertakes.

Concerning Ouigo : “Regardless of the agency or site from which you purchased your ticket, it is exchangeable and refundable free of charge in the form of a voucher that can be credited on the site http://ouigo.com or on the Ouigo application. Without any action on your part, your ticket will be automatically refunded."

Finally, for TER, "In the event of a connection with a regional train, you can request a refund up to 60 days after departure" on the site.
