This Thursday, March 28, at the Bayssan estate in Béziers, the "Olympics of local missions" took place. Around a hundred young people in integration were gathered.
"We are the Lunellois, and we make the law!". The cries resonate in the Bayssan area this Thursday, March 28, in the morning. The seven local integration missions of Hérault are brought together for the "Olympics of local missions".
"This is the first edition, there are around a hundred young people and they all seem delighted, smiles Julie Garcin Saudo, departmental advisor, at the initiative of the event. It’s very lively, there’s a good dynamic. The idea came up during our discussions, we said to ourselves that it would be good to bring together all these young people."
The Olympics took place in two stages: a first visit to each local mission with an exhibition and an escape game on the theme of the values of the Olympics. Then this day of the Olympics. The program is busy with seven workshops: the digital bus, digital rowing and cycling, soft archery, orienteering, a quiz on the modern history of Olympic Games, a discovery of break dancing (new Olympic discipline) and handi-basketball (in a wheelchair).
"Team spirit, courage and friendship"
"There is a point counting system, explains Frédéric Stein, member of the organization . This is balanced by issues of team spirit, courage and friendship, which are ultimately the values of Olympism."
Participants also attended a breakdance demonstration and the show "L’autre émoi". They were also able to meet and interact with high-level athletes with disabilities.
"All these young people are in integration, explains Julie Garcin Saudo. I think that this type events can allow them to gain self-confidence. Then it allows them to meet people. This promotes transversal exchanges and opens up the field of possibilities."
The awards ceremony took place at the end of the day. And it was the local mission in Montpellier that won the jackpot: places to attend the European and World Sailing Cup from the yacht club catamaran in La Grande Motte on May 7. The local mission of Lunel finished second and the local mission in the heart of Hérault, third.
