Ce samedi 13 et dimanche 14 avril, les motards ont manifesté dans toute la France contre l'obligation du contrôle technique pour les deux-roues qui entre en vigueur ce lundi 15 avril.

The measure, as much criticized as it may be, is effective from this Monday. Motorcyclists organized numerous demonstrations this weekend against the compulsory technical inspection for two-wheelers. On the eve of its entry into force, we take stock of this new rule.

When ?

The technical inspection is compulsory from April 15 with implementation staggered according to the date of first registration of the vehicles. For the oldest, it must be completed before August 14, 2024.

The first inspection must be carried out within 4 and a half to 5 years following its entry into circulation; its validity period is 3 years. To sell a motorcycle, however, you must present a technical inspection of less than 6 months.

Who ?

This mandatory periodic inspection concerns category L vehicles, in particular: motorized two-wheelers of 50 cm ³ and more, three-wheelers with a power greater than 15 kW, cars without a license, motorcycles, scooters, quads.

What ?

The professional checks in particular: the condition of the brakes; the absence of excessive polluting and noise emissions; the condition of steering equipment; the operation of lights and electrical equipment; the condition of the axles, wheels, tires, suspensions… The list includes 77 checkpoints and 161 potential failures. These regulations will evolve from 2025 with new control points using a celerometer or sound level meter.

And insurance ?

This is one of the areas of concern among motorcyclists: are we still insured in the event of a technical inspection boycott? The Mutuelle des bikers, whose headquarters is in Pérols, has informed its members that they will be covered in the same way. But, proof that the subject is sensitive, no one has confirmed the information to Midi Libre despite our requests. Other insurance companies, including AMV, have sent the same message.
