Si le démarchage téléphonique abusif et les arnaques par téléphone sont un véritable fléau, il est possible de repérer les numéros dont il faut se méfier.

How many times have you heard your phone ring and seen an unknown number appear?? At the end of the line, various and varied companies who want to sell you something or even worse, scams.

How do scammers do it, how to spot scams, and how to protect yourself from them? Midi Libre explains to you.

An application popular with scammers

There is an application, called OnOff, through which many scammers use to obtain a “credible” telephone number, starting with 06 or 07 for France, and thus contact you for malicious purposes.< /p>

According to our colleagues at BFMTV, if scammers are fond of OnOff, initially designed to allow anyone to having a second telephone number with the same SIM card, this is because the application allows them to regularly and easily change numbers, as soon as one of the numbers used for a scam is reported.

It is however possible to identify the numbers assigned by OnOff. Since the beginning of 2023, the numbers concerned are those starting with :

06 44 66 06 44 67 06 44 68 06 44 69 07 56 8 07 56 9 You must also be vigilant when dealing with numbers starting with 09

If you receive a call from a number starting with one of these sequences, this means that the person trying to reach you has been assigned a number by OnOff . This is not necessarily a scammer obviously, but caution must be exercised.

On its website, the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Communications, Posts and Press Distribution (Arcep) recalls the procedure to follow in the event of calls, SMS and fraudulent and/or spam emails. The 33700 device allows consumers to alert operators free of charge of text messages or calls that they consider suspicious.

Supervision of commercial canvassing

In addition, the law of July 24, 2020 aims to regulate telephone canvassing and thus fight against fraudulent calls. Since January 1, 2023, Arcep has also implemented a new numbering plan which provides in particular that commercial calls must now be made by numbers starting with 0162 , 0163, 0270, 0271, 0377, 0378, 0424, 0425, 0568, 0569, 0948 and 0949 in mainland France.

If you want to avoid them at all costs, you can install the free Bloctel service. The latter will allow you to put an end to these commercial practices.
