The addiction units of Montpellier University Hospital finally united on the same site

Auparavant disséminée sur plusieurs sites du CHU, ce service a emménagé sur un même lieu, à la Colombière. De quoi changer la vie des soignants et des patients.

The addiction department was located until recently in several locations at the Montpellier University Hospital and in particular at the Saint Éloi hospital, which was detrimental to its organization.< /p>

To improve their operation, all addiction services have been grouped together in the same location and service at the Colombière hospital, in a building of the psychiatry center which was abandoned. It has been completely renovated to offer a suitable welcome.

"Joining the psychiatry center will promote multidisciplinarity around patients, rejoiced Anne Ferrer, general director of the CHU. These new premises offer an environment more suitable for patients to get back on their feet."

"We have been working on this grouping for more than five years, underlined Professor Hélène Donnadieu, head of the service. For two months, we have already felt all that it could bring in terms of improved care.

"It’is important that the hospitalization is in the city, so that there’there is no stigma", specified Professor Patrice Taourel, president of the establishment medical commission.

"More than 8000 consultations per year"

This service offers more than 8,000 consultations per year, including 3,000 for addictions and somatic complications of addictions. It includes 17 day and full hospitalization beds and 15 scheduled withdrawal hospitalization beds.

On site, we also find a consultation sector, a liaison and support team in addictionology, which provides expertise for all patients hospitalized at the CHU.

Finally, an addiction care, support and prevention center (Csapa) with a drug addiction treatment unit also welcomes patients. The multidisciplinary medical team is made up of general practitioners, gastroenterologists and psychiatrists all with training in addictology.

The duration of hospitalization can be 5 to 10 days for simple withdrawal, up to three or four weeks when it is more complicated. The majority of patients took the step of consulting before being referred to the service if hospital withdrawal proves necessary.
