The Vitale card in the form of a mobile application is becoming popular on French soil. It is currently available in 23 French departments since May 29, 2024 and will continue to be gradually deployed by 2026.

Accessible via a mobile application

After the dematerialized driving license and identity card, the vital card is spreading across the territory. It becomes accessible in 23 departments, relays BFMTV. Via an application, it allows you to present it on your smartphone to facilitate the procedure. All you need to do is scan your card or enter your social security number in the application, before presenting your identity document to achieve this.

To be eligible, you will of course have to be over 16 years old and be affiliated with Health Insurance, MSA or MGEN. Please note that it is necessary to have a smartphone that runs under "IOS7" or "Android 12" minimum.

Health insurance has reassured by affirming that we can still use the physical card on a daily basis. "This will be a dematerialized alternative to the physical Vitale card, which continues to exist ", she explains on her official website.

The detailed list

Since July 2023, 8 French departments already had this functionality which was qualified by the government as "test ", reports Numerama. It was "Alpes-Maritimes, the Loire- Atlantique, Puy-de-Dôme, Bas-Rhin, Rhône, Saône-et-Loire, Sarthe then Seine-Maritime".

Now, 15 other departments have been added to the list, since May 29, 2024.
