The end of door-to-door waste collection in business areas angers artisans

Claude Lopez de la chambre des métiers et Thierry Clerc, président de l'U2P Hérault. Midi Libre – G. T.

A letter from the Metropolis was sent to several economic activity zone trustees informing them that door-to-door waste collection would no longer be ensured from March 18. The Union of Local Businesses (U2P) and the Chamber of Trades and Crafts denounce a hasty, non-concerted and penalizing decision.

This is a new, very sensitive subject in the already explosive issue of waste treatment in the Metropolis. By a letter dated February 12, the community alerted business managers that the collection of professional waste would no longer be provided door-to-door in the economic activity zones of its territory. .

Go to "private providers"

A decision "imposed by the evolution of national and European regulations" planned to come into force as soon as next March 18. Entrepreneurs are invited to contact "private service providers to find the service suited to your needs and organize the collection of your waste" or to use the "voluntary contribution points" which must be set up.

This change of approach and its suddenness caused the amazement of a certain number of professionals. "They learned about it from the trustee of their area of activity. We are told "now it's up to you to deal with your trash" chokes Claude Lopez, the president of the Chamber of Trades and of Hérault crafts. "We are being pushed against the wall. We therefore made the decision to bring the matter to the level of the prefect" adds Thierry Clerc, the president of U2P Hérault, a union of small employers which claims to have grown to "fake news" and mentions "a double sanction" for artisans and liberal professions. &amp ;quot; We are stunned. Everyone agrees on these issues of selective sorting. But we should still have seen how we do things. The people we represent are wondering what's going on… he adds.

A letter from François Vasquez

The letter from the Metropolis was written on February 12 and is signed by François Vasquez, the vice-president in charge of waste treatment strategy… before, therefore, this delegation was withdrawn from him by Michaël Delafosse due to their disagreement on the policy to be implemented to reduce the export of waste outside mainland France.

During his interventions, François Vasquez always made known his desire, supported by regulations, to "go out"< /em> waste from economic activity zones, i.e. around 20,000 tonnes per year, from door-to-door collection. An additional cost estimated, according to him, at 7 or 8 M€.  An orientation which remains that of the community. "We want to have rapid explanations, we cannot remain waiting"  insists Claude Lopez however.
