The FCBP failed to thrill its supporters against Uzès despite the high stakes

Le FCBP a concédé le match nul contre Uzès pour la dernière journée de championnat. Le maintien en R1 passera par deux matchs de barrages. Le public n’a pas caché sa déception.

It was the most important match of the season this Sunday, May 26 for the Football club Bagnols Pont-Saint-Esprit against Uzès. A victory was necessary to ensure maintenance in Regional 1. FCBP did not achieve this and its draw forced it to play two play-off matches. Around 200 people were present in the stands of the Léo-Lagrange stadium, including the mayor and his sports deputy. This is much more than in the last home matches, but it is still far from the 1,000 spectators announced before the match by the club president, Amar Kouadri-Henni.

Even if the public quickly got excited by some successful technical gestures from the players from Bagnolais and Spiripontaines, the team did not manage to bring the entire stand along with it. "The atmosphere is average, testifies Christian, a regular. As long as the team wins it's okay but otherwise it's very sad. Look, there was a great action and no one is encouraging." He is surprised that the club is playing "his survival in R1" during the last day of the championship. "Maintenance was acquired. We take three withdrawal points. It puts us in an uncomfortable position and on arrival we pay cash."

"Nothing is happening"

At half-time, the locals led by one goal but had just been reduced to ten. Tongues are loosened in front of the refreshment bar. "It’s been complicated since the start of the season. The players lack combativeness and desire. It’s a match at stake and nothing is happening. Perhaps a descent to Regional 2 would allow us to come back better afterwards", says Marc, who came from Connaux to attend the meeting with his son and a friend.

At the final whistle, the supporters see that Fabrègues, thanks to its victory in Béziers, has moved ahead in the standings. The word maintenance, which was on the public's lips throughout the match, no longer resonates. As we leave the locker room, heads are lowered. "It’s not possible, misfortune is pursuing us! We're tired", whispers the club president. Its project "Cap National 2030" now seems very far away. You will have to start by staying the course in Regional 1.
