The Faccc (Federation of Associations of Hound Hunters), a national organization bringing together passionate hunters of hounds throughout the country, awarded the Afacc 48 (French Association for the Future of Hunting) hound hunting of Lozère) the honor of organizing the 2024 national final of the hound competition in the hare route in the department.
Friday to Sunday
After a first missed meeting at La Canourgue in 2020, due to Covid, Le Massegros will host, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, this real French championship.
For three days, forty quality crews from all over France will compete, crews who qualified during the regional finals. More than 2,000 people are expected for this leading hunting and dog event. The competition takes place in an open environment on natural game, but it is a sport hunt called "at the stick", where the firearms remain at home and where the animal is not taken under penalty of elimination. The goal is simply to allow the dogs to express themselves and the handlers to properly direct the pack in order to pursue the hare for as long as possible, which, as a cunning expert, very often succeeds in deceiving and outpacing its pursuers. Ten packs will be decoupled each morning and five packs in the afternoon, Friday and Saturday. Packs of four to ten dogs will be judged during a performance that will last a maximum of two hours. Many breeds are expected including beagles, ariegeois, blues of Gascony, griffons, country lighters… The public will be able to follow the packs during each decoupling and it will be a real spectacle even for neophytes who will benefit from the comments of the many experts among the audience.
The team of volunteers from Lozère has been working since the beginning of the week to ensure that this event is a success, marquees, identification of the sectors and stewardships…
