The Mayor of Fourques announces a “general mobilization against the termination of the Rhône Plan”

Alors que les élus de la communauté de communes se mobilisent déjà contre l'implantation d'une ligne très haute tension, le maire de Fourques annonce un autre combat à mener : la poursuite du Plan Rhône.

On Monday, September 16, all the representatives of the municipalities of Symadrem (Joint Syndicate for the Development of the Rhone and Sea Dikes) met at the headquarters of the union in Arles.

“Nwe unanimously decreed a general mobilization”following the request of the prefect of the Paca Region not to continue work “on” the Petit Rhône” said Gilles Dumas, Mayor of Fourques and Vice-President of Symadrem during the meeting of the Beaucaire Terre d'Argence Community Council (CCBTA).

“One more fight to wage” added the elected official while the CCBTA is also engaged in the fight against the installation of a very high voltage line of 400,000 volts on its territory.

“We refuse to give in to the State”

According to Gilles Dumas, the State “remains deaf to all arguments and dialogue has broken down. But we refuse to give in to the State.”

The Rhône Plan is a multi-year plan to strengthen the dikes and implement numerous measures against flooding implemented by the State following the floods of 2003. Symadrem managed this mission on the Delta section of the Rhône, left bank and right bank, from Beaucaire-Tarascon to the sea. A plan that is already well underway, particularly on the Rhône, but whose work on the Petit Rhône still remain to be done. "Not to achieve them would be dramatic" assene Gilles Dumas.

Symadrem brings together six intercommunalities (the Aix Marseille Provence metropolis, the Arles Crau Camargue Montagnette urban community, the Nîmes Métropole urban community; the Terre de Camargue community of communes; the Beaucaire Terre d’Argence community of communes; the Petite Camargue community of communes, as well as the Department).
