In 2023, the most profitable job of the year to do without having a diploma or experience is atypical to say the least. In a ranking of the best summer jobs, the Figaro Etudiantindicates that it is the work of a "mystery shopper", but what is it ?

He's far from being the first to come to mind when we talk about summer jobs, and yet the mystery shopper job was the most profitable for all. Based on the Qapa barometer, a digital solution from the Adecco temp agency, the Figaro Etudiant publishes a ranking of employment jobs the year.

Unsuspected, unknown and atypical, the work of mystery shopper was not predisposed to ending up at the top of the rankings. Yet this is what emerges from the Qapa barometer.

He tops the list of our colleagues, ahead of the work of valet, toll collector, bartender, waiter, beach attendant, festival host, ticket agent, mascot and reception agent. The job is paid on average 1,800 to 4,570 euros gross per month, estimates the site. 

What is a mystery shopper ?

A mystery shopper can be both an employee and a freelancer paid on a piece-rate basis. It can be practiced very occasionally, or over the course of a summer or even all year round. The objective is to pose as a customer "lambda" and to provide opinions on consumables. On the other hand, it requires being of legal age and is very available. 

Versatility is the first criterion to honor to be a good mystery shopper. Although there is no need for a diploma or training, the job requires targeted skills such as good interpersonal skills, the ability to quickly evaluate a service or product or even an ability to of synthesis. Furthermore, acting skills greatly help to slip into different characters.
