THE TICKET. Legislative elections 2024: in Montpellier, local particularism

Le billet de Cathy Soun.

Montpellier, as during the presidential election, is one of the rare metropolises in France to have placed LFI at the top of the European poll. A local particularism since at the national level, the union list of the left led by Raphaël Glucksmann, is ahead of that of the Insoumise Manon Aubry. A scenario which tarnishes the celebration of local socialists prevented from celebrating the worthy score of their representative.

Resolutely hostile to the Nupes so far

Especially since, like the president of the Region, Michaël Delafosse has until now embodied a line stubbornly hostile to a rapprochement with Nupes. The permanent standoff with the president of Mupes, Alenka Doulain, is the almost permanent illustration of this within the municipal or metropolitan council. Except that like Macron on the evening of the second round of the presidential election, Michaël Delafosse agrees that "political circumstances oblige us…". Officially monopolized by an overloaded agenda, it is through a press release that the mayor of Montpellier calls "for a wider gathering".

The president’s roll of the dice forces him into an unexpected split. Especially since the citizen mobilization following the RN victory is only an ersatz of what we saw in 2002 with the Chirac/Le Pen duel. The trivialization of the far-right vote is now glaring. More than ever, this vote obliges us. Go vote to start.
