En 2023, 11 000 personnes s’étaient réunies pour célébrer la fin du jeûne du Ramadam. Cette année, ils ont été 16 000 à se retrouver dans deux halls du parc des expos.

While there were 11,000 in 2023, 16,000 people participated, Wednesday April 10, in this great celebration marking the end of the Ramadan fast for Muslims: "Today, it is important that all the faithful meet in the same place because Eid-el-Fitr is a great time of sharing". Omar Mamoune, imam of the El-Houda mosque, who led the prayer for the great Muslim festival marking the end of Ramadan, at the exhibition center, can be satisfied.

"Our Turkish friends also helped us prepare the event even if they celebrated Aid, like every year, in their cultural center" specifies Ousalam Larbi, president of the Ar-Rahma mosque. And to salute "the help of the City, the CCI and all those (around forty volunteers) who made prayer possible".

On their arrival, milk, dates and cakes awaited the Muslims, who had come with their families for what is a bit like Christmas. Large carpets, placed on the floor, welcomed men and women into separate rooms. Giant screens broadcast the prayer. Before Omar Mamoune's sermon.

"Fraternity, tolerance"< /b>

The imam speaks in Arabic and French "to get the message across to young people who do not all master Arabic so that succession is ensured.

What message ? That< i>"the values of Islam are also those of the Republic. Fraternity, tolerance, joy, kindness…" insists the religious.

Besides, believers paid alms to the poor, zakat-al-Fitr, which was collected.

For the occasion, believers continue the day by visiting their family and friends to exchange wishes and small gifts. "Eid-el-Fitr is a time of reunion but also of reconciliation" confides Imam Mamoune.

The organizers will meet to take stock of Eid-el-Fitr 2024. They will discuss the Muslim square which has become too small at the New Cemetery and, already, Eid-el-Kébir planned for June 16.

Not to be confused with Eid-el-Fitr, it is the commemoration of the sacrifice recounted in the Koran and the Old Testament. As Abraham prepares to kill his son to obey God, an angel replaces the child with a ram. In memory, Muslims perform a ritual slaughter of sheep.
