“These people don’t care about nature”: an artisan apprehended in the act of illegal dumping by the mayor of Saint-Brès

At the wheel of a dump truck, a man was apprehended by the mayor of Saint-Brès, this Wednesday March 6 around 4:30 p.m., after unloading piles of rubbish in the scrubland , on the edge of the new Cantaussel district.

It was a local resident who informed the councilor after having surprised the accused. The latter would have made around ten round trips during the day.

"He first told me stories, explaining to me that he had the authorization of a farmer but as he saw that I didn't believe not a word of what he was saying, he changed his mind", confides Laurent Jaoul, arriving on site accompanied by his municipal police.

"It’s madness anyway, these people have no education and don’ care about nature. There, he told me that he was doing work for a private individual in Baillargues and, without hesitation, he rented a truck and came to dump his trash at our place."

Proceedings initiated

Highlighting his police powers, he explained to the offender that he was immediately initiating both criminal and administrative proceedings.

« I filed a complaint with the gendarmerie with referral to the public prosecutor. I gave him 24 hours to put everything back together. And from this Thursday morning, I will be there. He faces seizure of the vehicle and 15,000 € fine."
