Tadej Pogacar a remporté la 4e étape de ce Tour de France 2024 ce mardi 2 juillet, s’imposant avec 35 secondes d’avance devant Remco Evenepoel et Juan Ayuso.

Let's stop for five minutes to answer a question. Is the team aligned by UAE Emirates for this 2024 Tour de France the strongest in the history of the Grande Boucle? What a steamroller! And it’s its chief driver, Tadej Pogacar, who is the main driving force.

What a recital from the Slovenian. On the occasion of the first high mountain stage of this Tour de France 2024, marked by the ascent of the Galibier at the end of the route, "Pogi" showed who was boss. He converted immense work from his "dream team" (Ayuso, Yates, Almeida, Wellens…) in the Alpine giant, attacking his other Tour favorites 800 meters from the ascent.

Carapaz too far

Initially, only Jonas Vingegaard managed to follow. The Dane, a double winner coming out of the event, broke down at 100 meters, losing 8 seconds at the top. But on the descent, Pogacar flew away. He finished 34 seconds ahead of Remco Evenepoel, Juan Ayuso, Primoz Roglic and Carlos Rodriguez. Jonas Vingegard finished 37 seconds behind. The first Frenchman, Guillaume Martin, is 20th in the stage at 4'03".

The general

1. Tadej Pogacar (UAE)
2. Remco Evenepoel (SOQ) at 45"
3. Jonas Vingegaard (TVL) at 50"
4. Juan Ayuso (UAD) at 1'10"
5. Primoz Roglic (RBH) at 1'14"
6. Carlos Rodriguez (IGD) at 1'16"
7. Mikel Landa (SOQ) at 1'32"
8. Joao Almeida (UAD) at 1'32"
9. Giulo Ciccone (LTK) at 3'20"
10. Egan Bernal (IGD) at 3'21"

Richard Carapaz, yellow jersey at the start, lost more than five minutes. Pogacar inevitably steals from him. He even gleaned 18 seconds of bonus during the stage.

The escapees in all this ? The FDJ had placed three strong men in the lead (Gaudu, Martinez, Madouas), forming a group of 17 riders, but they were swallowed up by the TGV UAE in the middle of the Galibier climb.
