Train travel: beware of fines if you do not respect these new rules for your luggage from this Monday

Starting this Monday, September 16, new rules govern the transport of luggage on board SNCF trains. The rules had changed since February 15, with a tolerance period lasting until September 15. While the fine is now possible, we take stock of what is changing.

No more unlimited and free luggage on trains. From now on, travelers must comply with certain rules. After a 7-month tolerance period since these instructions came into force, this Monday, September 16th marks the beginning of sanctions for users who do not respect the number of bags authorized free of charge.

Indeed, the SNCF has changed the rules concerning the latter. From now on, travelers can only take two suitcases maximum per person and only one piece of hand luggage.

What are the instructions ?

In addition to this numerical limit, luggage must also respect certain formats. For hand luggage, it must be 40 cm x 30 cm x 15 cm max. For a suitcase, the size must be 70 cm x 90 cm x 50 cm maximum. Finally, for special luggage: 130 cm x 90 cm max, SNCF connect specifies on its website.

Special luggage includes, for example, strollers, scooters, musical instruments, a pair of skis, etc. For bicycles, the SNCF requires that they be transported disassembled or folded in a cover bearing a label, which is now mandatory.
