Transfers: six months after his arrival in Qatar, former Montpellier player Andy Delort released by his club

The former MHSC striker was released this Monday, February 12, by the Umm Salal club, where he arrived last summer.

The adventure lasted six months. Landing in Qatar in the summer of 2023, Andy Delort was released from his contract by the Umm Salal club this Monday. 

"Thank you for everything you've done. We wish you success,” the Doha-based club communicated on its social networks.

Former Montpellier Andy Delort chose Qatar last July after six complicated months in Nantes (17 matches, 2 goals), from February to June 2023. With the jersey of & #39;Umm Salal, who had then spent more than 2.5 million euros, the native of Sète said he wanted to “rediscover good sensations. I am decisive, that’s the most important thing,” he said in an interview with Midi Libre on December 11. He will have scored 13 goals in twenty matches in the Gulf. 

Towards retirement ?

His Qatari adventure was also marked by a big scare. On January 6, he collapsed on the pitch during the Coupe des Etoiles final, suffering from convulsions. After a long time on the ground, Delort finally got up and watched the end of the match from the sidelines. 

The attacker now finds himself free from any contract. Before diving back into yet another adventure, or even a return to Ligue 1 ? According to the Algerian media DZfoot, Andy Delort would rather be thinking of hanging up his crampons as he goes through a "very difficult time in terms of personal on many levels".
