À Metz, dimanche, le Montpellier Triathlon dispute la première étape du championnat de France des clubs de Division 2.

This year, after the demotion of the men's team, the two Montpellier teams find themselves competing at the second national level. "After a first cycle of around ten years, we are starting a new chapter by integrating young people and bringing competence to the level of training, explains Romain Bresson, manager elite groups of the Montpellier Triathlon. The idea is to return to the first division in the short or medium term."

As for the women’s team, the announced objective is to get closer to the final podium to play for promotion to D1. For this, the club of president Mickaël Drissi has recruited two New Zealanders, an Irishwoman, injured for the moment and a Ukrainian still stuck in the country. two New Zealand athletes: "Without these two reinforcements, it will be more complicated, believes Romain Bresson. For the moment, we will aim for the first part of the table."

"A staff of locals, which is our strength"

This will also be the case for the men with the desire to be among the top six teams in the ranking at the end of the season. "We rely on local athletes, a workforce that trains in Montpellier, that's what makes us strong", notes the Hérault technician.

Over a sprint distance (750m of swimming, 20km of cycling and 5km of running), the Montpellier women are launching a new adventure which will take them to Saint-Jean-de-Monts, in the final in the month of September.
