Two Airbus A320neo planes avoid disaster: the first was about to take off while the second was landing

This Saturday, June 8, 2024, two Airbus A320neo planes almost collided at Mumbai airport in India. An Air India flight was taking off when an IndiGo aircraft landed at the same time and on the same runway. An investigation has been opened.

This Saturday, June 8, 2024, two Airbus A320neo planes almost collided on the tarmac in broad daylight. While the first of the company  Air India  was about to take off, the other aircraft from the IndiGo company landed at the same time, reports France 3 Occitanie. The scene was filmed and relayed on social networks.

As we can see in the images, the plane of the Indian low-cost airline arrived at full speed and found itself only a few meters from that of Air India. The Indian authorities spoke of a "near miss" and the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced in a statement, according to India tvnews, having "disregistered the ATC (Air Traffic Control) personnel involved in the incident".

400 meters difference

According to FlightRadar24 data, the two planes were only about 400 meters apart on the runway between the time the first landed and the second took off.

The company  IndiGo published a press release explaining that it had received "the landing authorization and had followed the instructions of ATC", before adding : "The safety of passengers is essential for us, and we have reported the incident in accordance with the procedure." An investigation is open to determine the causes of the incident .
