“Un si grand soleil”: Jacques Rabiot retires, the editor-in-chief of “Midi Libre” in the series bows out

Jacques Rabiot, played by Pierre Diot, is leaving – for the moment – the France 2 series, "Un si grand soleil". He had been working for the editorial staff of Midi Libre for three years.

There was emotion on January 23, 2024, when the last scene of the day was filmed on the set of the series "Un si grand soleil" exported to Midi Libre premises. For actor Pierre Diot, it was the end of a three-year adventure.

Since the launch of the France 2 series, he was Jacques Rabier, the inventive editor-in-chief of Midi Libre. Viewers learned last week that he was retiring, with one last plot twist: who to replace him ? pushed Marc (César Méric) for his candidacy… in vain.

"The feeling of being part of the editorial team"

That didn't stop him from having a smile when it was time to take off his editor's costume. "I’spent three wonderful years here at Midi Libre. I had an attachment to filming but also to the newspaper. It's like a mise en abyss, we have the impression of being part of the editorial team, it's very curious", the actor confided to us after the hugs with the whole team.

The atmosphere on the set, both serious and good-natured, is also what he remembers from this experience. "What's very interesting with Un si grand soleil is that we work with a lot of different directors, and all of them not only have lots of talent; ideas on the direction, but are also very attentive to the actors. It was very enriching on each shoot. And then, it was a pleasure to shoot with all the partners, in particular Naïma Rodric (who played Lucille Salama, a young journalist full of enthusiasm). ambition) and César Méric. I haven't forgotten the whole technical team who are adorable", he praised again.

"One of my greatest pleasures"

For Pierre Diot, who once appeared in "Maigret" or "Marseille" on Netflix, "Un si grand soleil" will remain "one of my greatest pleasures". But if Jacques has retired, nothing says that we won't see the actor again very soon in Montpellier. "If I am called for advice to the newspaper, correct an article, I will be happy to make a pass", s’ he jokes. Above all, he is preparing his one-man show and will begin a tour, "either at the start of the school year, or at the beginning of 2025", and hopes to do well by the Kawa Théâtre, in Montpellier.

This would be an opportunity for him to return to the editorial staff of Midi Libre to greet the journalists, "who have always treated me very well welcomed", and see how her replacement is doing, Anne-Sophie (played by Ophélie Koering, daughter of the composer René Koering), new editor-in-chief with more authoritarian methods that viewers discover in this moment.
