Frenchwoman Alice Finot was crowned European champion in the 3 000 m steeplechase, a few minutes before the title of her compatriot Gabriel Tual in the 800 m, Sunday June 9 at Rome, and two other bronze medals, less than two months before the Paris Olympic Games.
Coming late to the high level, Finot (33 years old) won in a rainstorm in 9'16''22. She beat the German Gesa Felicitas Krause (9'18''06) and the British Elizabeth Bird (9'18'' 39).

A few minutes after this great performance, the Frenchman Gabriel Tual also came to cover himself in gold thanks to his magnificent victory in the 800 m in 1'44& ;#39;'87, to become the first French athlete to win this event.
Two bronze medals Sunday evening
Ilionis Guillaume then won the fifth French medal of these European Championships with a bronze medal won in the triple jump event thanks to a mark of 14.43 m, setting a new personal best.
Before Agathe Guillemot went for sixth, also with bronze, in the 1,500 m with a time of 4'05'& ;#39;69 in the final, won by the Irish Ciara Mageean ahead of the British Georgia Bell.
