In the second after his victory against Georgian Guram Tushishvili in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games this Friday, August 2, Teddy Riner had a quick but muscular explanation with his opponent.

Rare images in judo. A clash after a fight almost never happens. Teddy Riner, in the second after his ippon on Georgian Guram Tushishvili (29 years old, world number 4), may have leaned a little on his opponent to get up.

A move that Tushishvili did not appreciate at all, who immediately pushed him away with his feet, propelling Riner to the ground. The Georgian then got on top of the 35-year-old triple Olympic champion, his finger raised. He finally got away, but the Guadeloupean held his leg, provoking a new impulsive reaction from the Georgian, who struggled with a hip thrust.

“They often tease each other”

Once tempers had calmed down, the two men still shook hands, exchanging a few words. "They often tease each other", reassured Olympic champion Emilie Andéol, consultant for France Télévisions.

Thanks to this success, Teddy Riner qualified for the semi-finals in the judo heavyweight category + 100 kg.  Following his clash with the Frenchman on the tatami, Georgian Guram Tushisvili was disqualified from the entire Olympic Games, and will not compete in the team event.
