VIDEO. Surfing at the Paris 2024 Olympics: a whale lands among the athletes in the middle of the event

In the middle of a surfing competition in Tahiti during the Olympic Games, a whale invited itself to the site, giving an impressive image.

While the Olympic Games events are mainly held in the Paris region, a competition is taking place on the other side of the world: on the waves of Teahupoo, in Tahiti. An atypical setting that gives rise to breathtaking images. While the semi-finals were taking place this Monday, August 5, a surprising guest came to disrupt the event.

For the last women's semi-final between Brazilian surfer Tatiana Weston-Webb and Costa Rican surfer Brisa Hennessy, a whale was captured by the television cameras. During this day, it was the Brazilian who won her ticket to the final, but she then lost to the American Caroline Marks.

A gold medal for a Frenchman

Among the French, Johanne Defay won the bronze medal against Brisa Hennessy. She thus won the first Olympic medal for French surfing. Finally, among the men, Frenchman Kauli Vaast was crowned Olympic champion against Australian Jack Robinson.
