La 111e édition du Tour de France part samedi de Florence, en Italie. Distance totale jusqu’à Nice : 3 498 kilomètres.

The 111th edition of the Tour de France, which leaves Florence on Saturday, will visit four countries – Italy, San Marino, Monaco and France – during 21 stages, for a total distance of 3 498 kilometers to Nice. This will be the 26th departure from abroad of the Grande Boucle, which will then pass through seven regions and 30 departments of France.

Arrival in Nice

It will arrive for the first time in its history in Nice, and not in Paris, due to the Olympic Games (July 26-August 11). Of the 21 stages, there will be 8 plain stages, 4 hilly stages, 7 mountain stages with 4 altitude finishes and two individual time trials. Add two days of rest.

Most stages won in a single Tour: 8 by Charles Pélissier (1930), Eddy Merckx (1970, 1974) and Freddy Maertens (1976).

The greatest number of riders to have worn the yellow jersey in a single Tour: 8 in 1958 and ;1987.

Most days in yellow: 97 by Eddy Merckx (in 7 participations).

Greatest number of final victories: 5 by Jacques Anquetil (between 1957 and 1964), Eddy Merckx (1969 to 1974), Bernard Hinault (1978 to 1985) and Miguel Indurain (1991 to 1995). Lance Armstrong won 7 but was later downgraded.

Most wins per country: France (36).

Highest number of podiums: 8 for Raymond Poulidor (3 times 2nd, 5 times 3rd) in 14 participations between & nbsp;1962 and  1976.

The biggest gap in the general classification (since 1947) between the winner and his runner-up: 28 min 17 sec (Fausto Coppi – Stan Ockers in 1952).

Oldest stage winner: Pino Cerami (41 years 3 months and 3 days) in 1963.

Youngest stage winner: Fabio Battesini (19 years 4 months 13 days) in 1931.

Highest number of participations: 18 by Sylvain Chavanel (2001 to 2018).
