Vinocap exhibition in Cap d’Agde: a world medal for Beauvignac chardonnay

The 15th edition of the most important wine tourism fair in the south of France will take place from Thursday 9 to Saturday 11 May, on the quays of the Centre-Port du Cap, where more than a hundred ;exhibitors are expected. Until then, Midi Libre invites you to meet several of its players, like the cooperative cellars in the Hérault Méditerranée region, which are continuing their move upmarket. And on the Pomerols side, it’s the chardonnay that shines.

With its 2 500 hectares of vineyard for 350 members, the cooperative cellar Les Costières de Pomérols, also known under the Beauvignac appellation, is one of the sure values ​​of the local cooperation.

The medals are raining down on Beauvignac

Born from the merger with the Castelnau-de-Guers cellar in 2003 then with that of Mèze four years later, this entity has the particularity of cultivating whites with unbeatable value for money. More than a third of the vineyard is classified as AOP Picpoul de Pinet but recently, it was another vintage which stood out during the “Chardonnay du monde” competition, where nearly 580 samples from thirty-three different countries were presented to a jury of experts.

Regularly covered in gold during the Paris agricultural competition (this was the case once again during the last edition), Beauvignac's IGP Côte de Thau 2023 chardonnay shone this time at the level world, with a ranking in the top 10 for the third time in its history. A sign of an obvious regularity and a specificity which seems to delight the professionals who note it.

Complex, balanced flavors

"What makes this wine successful is its aromatic side, with even hints of hazelnut", recently explained Joël Julien, director of the cellar, in the columns of Midi Libre. &quot ;This complexity, this balance, is quite difficult to find. Often, when people taste this chardonnay, they have difficulty placing it geographically because somewhere, we are onto something very atypical."
