Volleyball: a French champion title to defend for Arago de Sète

A team, led by Fred Gibert, which combines youth and experience.

The Élite Avenir compete in the final stages of the championship in Rennes, until May 20.

The players from the Arago Training Center are in Rennes this weekend to compete in the final stages of the Élite Avenir championship and thus defend their title of champion of France. Their trainer Fred Gibert gives his impressions before the big meeting.

How do you see this competition ?

The final phases are a time when everyone comes together and evaluates themselves. All the shuffling is done to have playing time and establish the ranking in particular. We made sure to be seeded in Pool C or Pool D. Now, this is the real competition, we are going to come across tough matches, there is no will have more catch-up sessions.

What are your strengths ?

The strength of our team is to have composed the entire season with different squads, to have been able to test players in different positions. We arrive with different compositions which can quickly be painful for the opponent.

Advice from coach Fred Gibert.

What are your ambitions ?

The priority objective is the dual project: advancing at the high level and succeeding in your studies. Now we are playing a competition, we are not making up the numbers. If you want to play at a high level, you have to be competitive.

The captain, Tibo Rippert, has already experienced this competition with a champion title…

Tibo is a good captain, he knows the competition, he knows that there is no room for whining, that we must be fully committed to the objective. I have a very good relay in the field.

Last weekend, some of your players played in the final stages of the Coupe de France U18. How to manage this double competition ?

We have to deal with the state of fatigue, this is also the case for our players who played the entire second part of the season at 100% with the pro squad, we are in a new competition, a new rhythm. The mix of genres can be a little complicated to manage but I have great satisfaction with the progress of certain players.
