At the Palais des sports in Castelnau-le-Lez, the Montpellier players got together to kick off their season, which will begin with the Super Cup on September 21 against Saint-Nazaire.
While Nicolas Le Goff and the Blues are showcasing French volleyball to the world at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the 32-year-old center's teammates got back to training last Wednesday.
The Palais des sports Jacques Chaban-Delmas saw the arrival of the new MHSC VB squad almost in full. In addition to Le Goff, two other players concerned by the Games were missing, the Argentinian Ezequiel Palacios and the Bulgarian Dimitar Dimitrov. “We had a very normal recovery,” estimates coach Loic Le Marrec. We started with three days of branding, settling in, with two training sessions per day, medical visits,… I felt a lot of motivation, application and involvement."
Corre : "I feel very good"
Among the group called to make their comeback, the passer Raphaël Corre (34 years old) showed up in great shape. Injured in the knee last season, he took advantage of the break to do a lot of physical work: “It feels good to be back with my teammates and start this new season,” he rejoices. Personally, I feel very good, I worked all summer to repair my knee. I have an advantage over the others which allows me to finalize my return in the best conditions in order to have a more enjoyable season. It was a good challenge for me, I started from far away…"
If Corre begins his second season in Hérault, the squad welcomes new players who, for some, know the Montpellier environment: “We have already kept several players who were under contract, notes Le Marrec. We have also decided to give a chance to young players like Joris Seddik who is climbing the ladder. There is a nice mix between old and young. We wanted a group that has a love of the jersey and work with new players who have already been at Montpellier like Corentin Phelut, Raphaël Pascal and Théo Conré. After taking their little bundles to go and learn their trade elsewhere, they are back at the club."
Now that the players of the MHSC VB version 2024-2025 have met, they are starting serious things on Monday with physical preparation. While waiting for the return of their Olympic medalist.
More info: The summer was marked by the financial setbacks of Nantes-Rezé, winner of the Coupe de France 2024 against Montpellier in the final. The Loire-Atlantique club is disappearing, which leads to its replacement during the Supercup match against Saint-Nazaire on September 21 by the MHSC VB. Also, the 2024-2025 League A should only have 13 clubs and will start on September 28. I subscribe to read more
