War in Gaza: Renaud, Léna situation, Angèle… 230 artists ask Emmanuel Macron to recognize the Palestinian state

More than 230 artists and influencers including Léna Situations, Renaud, DJ Snake, Leïla Bekhti and Angèle signed a column Tuesday in Libération in which they question the President of the Republic on the recognition of a Palestinian state that they want.

“Spain, Ireland and Norway have taken the path of human dignity by officially recognizing the State of Palestine, joining the 143 countries that officially recognize the existence of a Palestinian State. But France, the country of human rights, the country of Enlightenment, has still not spoken out“, these artists deplore in their text.

“We, artists, content creators, public figures and citizens, with our differences but also these ties that unite us, join our voices to tell the world that we recognize the existence of the State of Palestine, not only in response to the current massacre, but in the name of the right of this people to exist”, they add.

Appeal to Emmanuel Macron

"Today, we are calling on the President of the Republic to ask for this recognition. Let us not go against History."

The war was triggered by Hamas' unprecedented attack on Israel on October 7, which left 1,189 dead, most of them civilians, according to an AFP count based on official Israeli figures.

The attackers also took 252 hostages. 121 remain in Gaza, 37 of whom have died, according to the army.

Israel's retaliatory offensive has since killed at least 36,439 people in Gaza, most of them civilians, according to the Hamas-controlled territory's health ministry.
