“We aspire to well-being and peace”: in Nîmes, a fraternity cake brings together all religions

Un temps d'échanges et de partage était organisé ce samedi 6 janvier. Midi Libre – Correspondant

Chaque année depuis 12 ans, l'association Mille couleurs propose à tous les habitants du quartier de Pissevin de se réunir.

12 years ago the Saint-Pierre parish and the Mille Couleurs association offered all the inhabitants of Pissevin a festive moment of sharing on the occasion of the new year. And thus the Galette was born of the fraternity, as recalled this Saturday, January 6, at the Léon-Vergnole space, Father Serge Cauvas, parish priest, during the beautiful event planned for the occasion, in the presence of Mgr Nicolas Brouwet, Bishop of Nîmes, Titia Es-Sbanti, pastor of the United Protestant Church of Nîmes, Driss El Moudni, representing the Muslim community and representatives of the political class, Véronique Gardeur-Bancel, Valérie Rouverand and Yvan Lachaud.

"Celebrating our differences which make us strong"

Hayat El Atmani, the president of the associative center, recalled the importance of this fraternal meeting: "Today, I suggest that we come together to celebrate our differences which are our strength and our collective wealth. In a world faced with multiple challenges and tensions, where difference can sometimes give rise to fears, our presence is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to living together, and to express a strong message of fraternity and of respect. It is through these moments of sharing and dialogue that we fight discrimination and preserve the spirit of secularism that unites us."

An attachment to this tradition

In turn, Father Cauvas insisted on "the attachment that we have with the Mille Couleurs to this tradition which is the manifestation of fraternity. We are aware that we have to make efforts for people who need it. We aspire to well-being and peace. Today's social context encourages us to look for ways to achieve this peace."

This beautiful image of fraternity desired by everyone was found when tasting the superb cakes planned for the occasion.
