“We can reach a million euros”: for her 15th birthday, the Montpellier Queen hopes for a record for her race against illness

The 15th edition of this event will take place on Sunday May 26, Mother's Day, with the aim of raising ever more funds to fight against breast cancer.

"It’has become a tradition, an unmissable event… And finally I realize that everything was written in advance." Barbara Pastre-Glatz, the president of the Montpellier Reine is filled with emotions when she looks back on the journey of this event over the years. This charity run-walk which will take place on May 26 in the streets of Montpellier to fight against breast cancer will celebrate its 15th anniversary.

Program, registration, course… the 15th edition in practice

The 15th edition of the Montpellier Reine will take place on Sunday May 26, Mother's Day at Le Peyrou on a course of 4.8 ;km. This year the godmother of the event is the actress Ariane Brodier and the godfather the designer Dadou.

On the program: à 9 a.m., opening of the entertainment village, 10:30 a.m., official speech, 10:45 a.m., collective warm-up, 11:00 a.m. Start of the race, 12 p.m. check delivery. Collection of bibs will take place on Saturday May 25 from 12 p.m. 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m.

Registrations are open on www.montpellier-reine.org. Prices: 20 euros, 15 euros for students and under 18 years old and free for under 7 years old.

There are 5 categories: friends, associations, businesses, schools and institutions. On site, on the day of the event, childcare is available.

Certainly the organization of this solidarity race may seem well-established, yet it is a titanic job, carried out with a masterful hand by the woman who has been running the event for all her years. In addition to the various tributes and thanks that she always wishes to underline, Barbara Pastre Glatz recognizes her pugnacity – and even apologizes for it to her partners – to achieve this result which, in each edition, is a success .

– 68 567 participants in 14 editions, more than 8 300   the race in 2023.

– 875,000 euros collected in 14 editions.

– 190 women helped thanks to the Solidaire network.

More than just a race

"If participation is the same as last year, we will reach the sum of 1 million euros donated over fifteen years", she admits, not without pride. "The Montpellier Queen is more than a race, it’is more than a simple human adventure…"

And to describe memories that come to mind: some participants running with their stroller who today run with their teenagers, the strength of the emotions accumulated and experienced, the links built over time, setbacks too… to lead to this event now anchored in the Montpellier landscape which makes it possible to launch innovative and useful projects in the face of breast cancer.

The projects which will be financed by this 15th edition

Among the proposed projects, here are those that were implemented. selected to be financed and therefore launched thanks to this 15th edition of the Montpellier Reine.

– The establishment of a therapeutic education program on the activity of the patient. physical in order to better support and help sick women on this subject during the treatment process, initiated by the Montpellier Cancer Institute.

– The study on the contribution of hypnosis to patients operated on rsquo;breast cancer on healing and stress, also initiated by the ICM.

– Improving supportive care and comfort for patients, including the use of a reality headset. virtual for immersive relaxation or the management of compression bra or external prostheses, project initiated by the Montpellier University Hospital.

– A personalized support program post-treatment to prevent the abandonment syndrome initiated by the patient. by the Parentheses of Mary, which will allow, through a patient partner, to help with the return & normal life after illness, like a sort of airlock.

– Not counting financial aid donated to the MIS, (Montpellier Institut du Sein), for a social worker, & the League against Cancer for supportive care, à Apor, for psycho-oncological services à proximity from home and to the Day After to support women in their employment after cancer.

At her side, Me Iris Christol, who has provided her with unwavering support from the start, would like to point out that she will be there once again, but “by walking”. I don’t run…", she declares, laughing.

She confides in the story of her generous-breasted grandmother who had her breast removed due to cancer. She told him with humor at the age of 75 that she "padded her bra for the aesthetic side but that with the difference in weight" between her still present breast and the filling, she would end up walking in a leaning manner.

But beyond each story, the lawyer emphasizes that "the Montpellier Reine is the opportunity to come and draw strength from this magnificent manifestation of joyful fraternity&quot ; and add as a wink: "15 years is not nothing, it’s the age of adolescence and it is also the age of sexual majority."
