“We said we’d meet in twenty years”: a man travels 500 km to find his first love and gets rejected

A man living in Hauts-de-France tried to reunite with his first love for a date set 20 years ago. On March 19, 2024, he went to meet his ex-girlfriend at the scheduled place and time. His sweetheart, unfortunately for him, did not show up.

"I'm going because I made this appointment twenty years ago", he wrote on his X account on the eve of the expected reunion. He is preparing to go to Château-Thierry at 6 p.m. on March 19. This appointment was not made at random. Twenty years ago, says our colleagues from Ouest-France, he had promised his first love to find her there. She had also sworn to go there.

White cabbages

Unfortunately for him, this hope of finding his ex ended in bitter disappointment. Although he arrived at the scene at the scheduled time, she was not present. Yet she had promised, during a conversation, that they would see each other again that day.

"I wanted to try", confides the forty-year-old to our colleagues. He wants to be reassuring about his disappointment. He has grown up since then and is now the father of several children and lovers of their mother: "I have turned the page, I have my love life, I have a partner and children. I'm happy."

Worthy of a romantic comedy

It’it’is the symbolic character, more than sentimental, of the approach, which interested this Internet user : "I’I'm going there because that I set this appointment twenty years ago", he wrote in his message on X.

"Since then, this promise has kept coming back to my mind. I think that the intensity of the relationship, the brutality of the breakup and time have made this story sacred to me." Today, he feels like "the weird guy in the story".

"After all, the fact that she didn’s not come is completely normal. I'm the weird guy in the story. No one goes to a meeting set twenty years later." The 40-year-old man was supported by Internet users who were sometimes ironic, sometimes compassionate.
