“We want more local products in our canteens”: Carole Delga asks Gabriel Attal to change the law

La présidente de la Région Occitanie explique ses attentes pour aider le monde agricole avec trois priorités : outre les cantines, elle évoque l'accès à l'eau et plus de revenus pour les agriculteurs. 

Among your priorities is the question of local products in canteens that you would like to generalize, can you explain to us why ? 

For the Occitanie region, i.e. 10% of the country's population, this represents 22 million meals each year in high schools and colleges. The law must allow us to buy more local products, organic products so that our children have quality food. This is what I am going to ask the Prime Minister. Because not only will this generate income for our farmers, but it will provide food education for our young people who are the consumers of tomorrow. But for that, we must change the law, I insist.

You also mention, among the priorities, the difficulty of access to water ? 

I obtained from the President of the Republic, whom I met on December 5, a favorable response to allow me to have a Mr. or Mrs. "water" who can, via the regional prefect, accelerate the procedures to bring about projects linked to water. Whether it is the reuse of wastewater, the connection to different networks for agricultural water in particular or the creation of small hillside reservoirs to limit flooding and prevent the risk of flooding. #39;useful water does not go to the sea. This person is being recruited, we will have a complete team within four months to go faster. And in Occitania, we have Departments ready to take action. 

You were distinguished by the Agricultural Show, is that a source of pride ? 

I had the nice surprise of having been the only politician to have received the Salon medal. The official handover is at the end of April, they will explain their choice to me but it touched me because I am keen to support agriculture, the peasantry because I come myself- even from this world. This is also why we have a very proactive policy. We have tripled the agricultural budget. Afterwards, we must ensure that the promises made are kept. We will take care of it. 

Are you satisfied with the emergency measures announced by the government since the start of the Show ? 

These are interesting measures but above all they must be implemented very quickly. In particular financial aid measures. We have set up a unit to monitor these promises because the emergency is immediate. 

What do you think of floor prices to prevent a farmer from selling his produce at a loss ? 

We need a little more detail. I would like to know what will happen with productions that come from internationally. How to reconcile a French floor price and another set by the international market ?  We cannot close the borders, trade, exchange must be able to take place. This is not irreconcilable.
