Weather Alert: 13 departments in the south of France placed on orange heatwave alert for Sunday

Météo France has placed 13 departments in the south of France on orange heatwave alert for Sunday 28th ;nbsp;July 2024.

Météo France announces a "heatwave episode extending to a large part of the southern half of the country" in its latest bulletin.

Orange alert

This episode heatwave concerns 13 departments in the south of France, placed on orange alert: "Very high heat forecast from Sunday to Wednesday in the south of the country, temporarily extending to the north of the country during the week."

These are Gironde, Landes, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, Gers, Haute-Garonne, Tarn-et-Garonne, Lot, Corrèze, Tarn, Savoie, Haute-Savoie and Haute-Corse.

27 departments are on yellow alert for storms or heatwaves.

Tomorrow, the mercury could reach 35 °C and especially not fall below 27 °C at night in certain areas. "An extension of the orange alert to other departments in the south of the country is to be considered for the next maps", warns the site. 

What recommendations ?

For the orange alert level, in the event of a heatwave, Météo France recommends remaining vigilant, especially for the most vulnerable people – children and the elderly.

To protect yourself from "heat stroke", it is recommended to avoid physical activity as much as possible, to stay well hydrated and to continue eating normally.

The symptoms of heat stroke are: "A fever above 40 °C, hot, red and dry skin, headache, nausea, drowsiness, intense thirst, confusion, convulsions and loss of knowledge."
