In a video broadcast by the magazine Elle this Tuesday, May 7, President Emmanuel Macron suggests opening a & ;quot;debate" on the establishment of a possible "duty to visit" of fathers in single-parent families mainly in the care of women.

"I want us to be able to open this debate, which is basically both a debate on parenting and a debate on equality between women and men, which is that of establishing a duty of visit, a duty of support until the arrival of rsquo;adulthood, children", said this Tuesday, May 7, the president in a short video published by Elle on his Instagram account.

Regular visits and involvement in the child's education

"When there is a father, he must exercise all his duties and the mother, when she is in this situation, can require regular visits", adds the Head of State, referring to the need for fathers to participate, for example, in parent-teacher meetings and to be "stakeholder" child education.

"It’It’s a duty to be a parent and it’s a duty that does not end at the moment of divorce or separation" and parents must "exercise their responsibilities" to &quot ;two", he emphasizes.

He considers that"including for the child, it’s better. Because a child who never sees his father is a child who feels abandoned" and "whose emotional and educational development is not the same".
