What if equal pay started at school ? The bet of the Elles Bougent association for women in science

Observers of the phenomenon note two main causes of the gender pay gap – excluding discrimination. The first is the fact that more women work less hours than men. The second is that they have less easy access to better-paid positions, often in scientific fields. The Elles Bougent association promotes scientific education for young girls. 

The Innovatech Languedoc Roussillon Challenge will take place on March 26 at the Joffre high school in Montpellier. The regional branch of the association Elles bougient is organizing an event dedicated to the promotion of scientific education for women. For her, equal pay starts at school. 

Creating vocations

During the challenge, in groups of six (two sponsors who are members of the association, two students and two high school students), the women collaborate for a day on a scientific innovation project. The goal ? To give birth to vocations. 

For the regional director of They move, Liliane Dorveaux, "these are professions which for the most part look 'masculine'. We have to show that it exists, that it is possible for little girls. The students see that they can follow the path of students. We intervene from middle school, even in primary school, where there are fewer stereotypes."
