The motorist will no longer be able to invoke the excuse – most of the time in bad faith – that he did not know what speed was authorized on the portion in question. 

Then the system must warn the driver if he crosses the limit, using ;a indicator light or a horn.  And finally, a device could be designed to reduce the speed of the vehicle, by forcing the motorist to decelerate, such as hardening the accelerator pedal at the time of overtaking, as specified in the European Road Safety Charter.

Even if the government website specifies that "however, the motorist remains in control of his vehicle and can always "force& quot; accelerations."

Mandatory from July 2024

The device is already mandatory on all new approved models of vehicles sold in Europe since  July 2022.

And it will be mandatory from July 2024, all new vehicles placed on the market and registered for the first time must be equipped with the AIV, including models released before July 2024.
