The Household Waste Union warns of a sorting error that is hampering the operation of the center in Millau.

How clothes end up on the sorting belt in Millau ? This is clearly a common error that the agents of the Millau center are confronted with. “Putting textiles in the yellow bin is a sorting error, warns the Departmental Union for Household Waste (Sydom) of Aveyron in a press release. As a reminder, the yellow bin is only reserved for packaging and paper and a specific collection of textiles is implemented throughout the Aveyron region."

Clothes that wrap around the machines

This error represents a certain handicap in the operation of the center located in Fialets. "Clothes arriving at the sorting center can wrap around the machines, blocking them and causing breakdowns sometimes requiring the replacement of certain equipment or parts with shutdown of sorting activity, details Sydom. Collection terminals dedicated to textiles are available in recycling centers or in your area. You can drop off all textiles there, whether they are in good condition, worn, torn or damaged, namely: clothing, socks, shoes in pairs, leather goods, household linen."

Sorting instructions expanded since November 2021

As a reminder, since the end of 2021, sorting instructions have been expanded in the department, thanks to new installations. The instructions are simple: 100% of paper and packaging can be put in the yellow bag. This extension of the instructions represents 17 kilos of additional packaging per inhabitant per year.

To better raise awareness among residents about sorting instructions, the Sydom of Aveyron has set up an educational trail, accessible by reservation and widely visited throughout the year by schools, leisure centers and other structures that welcome young people.
