It was last August 29, at the PS Summer Campus in Blois. Speaking about the ecological transition of cities and the work on the drinking water network, the mayor of Montpellier got carried away at the microphone, saying: “When there are assholes yelling about the work, you have to explain it to them!”

From social networks to the streets of the Ecusson

The sequence circulated on social networks and caused a stir among the people of Montpellier, some of whom felt targeted. “The word is obviously unfortunate, Michaël Delafosse concedes. Sometimes people violently attack me in the street, where I regularly walk or cycle, but despite that I have to explain it to them”, he pleads.

Accustomed to more refined language, the elected official acknowledges that the term does not belong to his “usual register”. Surely, we won't catch him there again.
