Why your bank could charge you up to 10 euros for a simple instant transfer ?

Alors que la baisse du prix des virements instantanés est attendue en France, certaines banques ont, à l’inverse, fait exploser leurs prix.
In nine months, on January 9, 2025, banks will be subject to a new European regulation, which came into force in April: instant transfers will have to be implemented in place in all banks and at the same price as traditional transfers.
Almost seven years after its launch, the market share of instant SEPA transfers remains low, recalls MoneyVox. In France, this represents only 6% of all transfers issued, according to figures from the Banque de France dating from the first half of 2023.
30% increase in two years
A lack of popularity which is partly explained by a high pricing policy. In fact, French banks have chosen to pass on the costs of implementing this new payment method to users.
In this regard, the price of instant transfers even tends to increase. According to our tariff statement, it increased, on average, from 79 cents in January 2022 to 1.02 euros currently. That’s almost a 30% increase in two years.
Up to 10 euros billing
Even if around 20% of banks no longer charge for these instant transfers, the others have found a way to increase the cost of the instant transfer. : billing by level of amount. That is to say that the price of the transfer is proportional to the amount transferred.
As the European regulation approaches, around thirty brands still practice this method of invoicing, including the majority of Caisses d’Épargnes and Banques Populaires. Still according to MonexVox, in these banks, instant transfers between 1 000 and 1 500 euros are charged 1.18 ;euro, and for those of 15,000 euros or more, the amount even rises to 10,000 euros.
