“You're going to die soon, you don't need money anymore”: the first client of the suicide capsule denounces the pressure from the inventor

The first client of the "suicide capsule" finally retracted, denouncing the more than questionable practices of the company of exploiters.

She was due to die soon. An American woman who was overweight and had several illnesses: first of all, but also polyneuropathy and a nervous system disease. She decided to cut short her suffering by resorting to assisted suicide, with the “suicide capsule” that caused so much controversy. But she decided to retract her statement and denounced the practices of the capsule operator in a letter, says Blick.

“Psychological care rather than assisted suicide”

The American had left her state and headed to Switzerland to end her life. When she got there, things didn't go as planned. She highlighted the “financial exploitation”  inventor of the machine that caused a scandal.

“The media circus was constant, while I became sicker and weaker. I sacrificed everything and exhausted all resources, thinking that Sarco [the capsule] would give me a peaceful end. If I had known that the heartless people who held my fate in their hands were only motivated by their marketing, I would never have put myself through this ordeal", she laments.

She also states that the expenses would have been her responsibility, within a luxury hotel. The latter would have spent nearly 7,000 dollars for five nights. “You are going to die soon, so you don't need your money anymore”, the wife of the inventor of the “suicide capsule”, Philip Nitschke, is said to have said to her.

For its part, the company is defending itself and refuting all accusations. “Given his situation, it is clear that this person should now receive psychological care rather than assisted suicide”, Philip Nitschke said.

A “Sarco”

Created a few months ago, the association called The Last Resort did not wish to say exactly "where""when", nor "who"  will use it for the first time. Called "Sarco" for sarcophagus, this capsule is in the form of a mini-cabin in which the person who wishes to end their life must lie down.

She must activate the button herself after answering a series of questions to confirm that she understands what she is doing and release nitrogen into the capsule.

"After two or three breaths, she will lose consciousness and die a few minutes later “late”, described Mrs. Stewart.
