La collision frontale a eu lieu ce mercredi 19 juin vers 17 heures sur la M65, commune de Castelnau-le-Lez, juste avant la sortie "Clapiers".

Today we know a little more about the pileup, which occurred this Wednesday June 19 around 5 p.m. on the M65 in Castelnau-le-Lez, which leaves seven injured, including one who is between life and death.

According to witnesses, the driver of a Volkswagen Bora, with five people on board, was zig-zagging for several hundred meters, for an undetermined reason. A biker even tried to overtake him, before backing down.

Then, suddenly, the car veered to the left and collided head-on with a Mini Cooper which was coming in the opposite direction with a mother on board. aged 51 and her 14-year-old son. The driver of the 125 cc scooter was unable to avoid the impact and was in turn swept away in the pile-up.

Only the teenager escaped unscathed

All those involved were taken care of by the Hérault firefighters. Only the 14-year-old teenager escaped unscathed. His mother, slightly injured, was taken to the Parc clinic. The motorcyclist, aged 60 (and not 14 as indicated in a previous article), suffering from shoulder and knee injuries, was transported to the Saint-Roch polyclinic.

For their part, the five occupants of the Volkswagen were evacuated to the Lapeyronie hospital center. The most seriously injured was the passenger who was seated in the middle of the rear seat. He was admitted to intensive care in the anesthesia and resuscitation department (Dar A) with a critical prognosis.

Why these zigzags?

The driver, aged 63, and the right rear passenger (40 years old) were taken care of by the intensive care unit. The other two, aged 44 and 47 respectively, more lightly injured, were subjected to control examinations.

The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmes of the Castelnau-le-Lez company who are wondering about the origin of the zigzags: discomfort, argument, cell phone while driving, insects… The story for the moment does not tell. Given their state of health, the occupants of the Bora could not be heard.

One thing is certain, however, the alcohol and narcotics tests carried out on the two drivers turned out to be negative. The investigation continues.
