Rugby union: in Sète, a last match without flavor or victory
In this low-stakes match to round off the season for both teams, the Sétois failed to shine on their home turf. Hand faults quickly handicapped them. After a forward, then a missed tackle, the locals let Canova slip into the axis, which served Poggioli who only had to flatten between the posts (0-7).
The response was good with undermining work within 22 meters which ended with a try from Virenque. But with a last-second penalty, the Varois went ahead at the break (7-10).
The door open to a return
Once again, RC Sète was in the reaction. Undoubtedly the best Sétois this Sunday (with Sanchez), Aigoin flattened in the corner (14-10) then, after a new Var advantage following a try from Oyonarte (14-17), did it again. After recovering his follow-up kick, he served Belugou on a plateau: 21-17.
Las, for not having been able to take the points when they presented themselves, the Sétois left the door open for a comeback. And with two penalties from Poggioli, the second of which was over 50 meters, the Var were able to leave Federal 3 with a victory (21-23).
