Ranking of the best student cities of 2024: Montpellier is still popular, discover the ranking

At the top of the ranking in 2023, Montpellier's success with students has not been denied in 2024!

The specialized site L’Étudiant has just published its annual ranking of the "best student cities", this Thursday April 3. For this 2024 edition, its editorial team compared 47 French cities which each welcome more than 8,000 students. At the top of this ranking last year, Montpellier is once again establishing itself this year as the unmissable student city.

Training offer, attractiveness and free transport

With nearly  80 000 students – or approximately 17% of its population according to L’Student – the Hérault capital is particularly popular for its choice of training, the attractiveness of its territory or its employment opportunities. It is also widening the gap with its runners-up (Rennes, Toulouse and Caen) thanks to the implementation of free transport.
