Shortly after the election results, customers of a bar attacked, the establishment devastated

A group of eight individuals came to fight in the Marine bar, in Alès. The political motive cannot be ruled out.

Shortly after the broadcast of the election results, a group of eight individuals spread across two vehicles started a fight in the Marine bar in Alès. The establishment is notorious for hosting far-right political meetings.

At around 8:30 p.m., individuals walked past the bar and insulted customers. While customers thought the incident was over, and thought they were dealing with activists satisfied with the results of the vote, everyone was stunned when a first individual entered the establishment and assaulted a customer.

A violent fight then ensued. The entrance door to the establishment was closed and an assailant remained trapped inside. The man was subdued. But the other members of the group came to his rescue.

Four individuals arrested, the others sought

The attackers grabbed the stone slabs blocking the umbrella bases and threw them into the door. This was shattered. The attackers tried to free their friend, still inside.

One of them managed to enter the bar where he hit consumers. The blows redoubled. Among the customers, one woman was particularly shocked. She took refuge in the back room. Several customers were slightly injured.

An investigation in progress

The agents in charge of the City's video protection cameras spotted the attackers and triggered the alert. National police officers, including the anti-crime brigade (Bac) intervened quickly, supported by municipal police officers.

The police arrested four of the attackers. Commissioner Emmanuel Dumas and Commander Corinne Vallon led the first acts of investigation. The technical and scientific police carried out surveys of the traces of blood found and numerous photos of the evidence.

Around 9 p.m., the owner of the establishment, stunned by such an attack, did not understand why his establishment had been targeted by individuals who, obviously, were come to do battle. The investigation continues and will have to clarify the reasons for such an attack, on election night.
