Météo France a placé ce samedi 31 août à midi en vigilance orange "orages" trois départements de Nouvelle-Aquitaine. "Une extension aux départements voisins est possible", selon le service météorologique.

The weather is getting worse: Météo France has placed three departments in Nouvelle-Aquitaine on orange alert for “storms” this Saturday, August 31 at noon. Starting at 6 p.m. for the departments of Pyrénées-Atlantiques (64) and Landes (40) and at 8 p.m. for Gironde (33).

The event has not yet started. Météo France specifies that “a few storms are currently circulating in the west of the country. A more marked stormy deterioration is expected at the end of the afternoon from the Basque Country”.

Strong gusts of wind, strong electrical activity, hail…

The meteorological service adds that if for the moment, only these three territories are concerned, “an extension to neighboring departments is possible. It is therefore advisable to keep informed of the evolution of the vigilance on the next maps”.

Strong gusts of wind, strong electrical activity, hail… there is for the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, the Landes and the Gironde “a high risk of violent phenomena”. Locally accumulations of around 20 to 40 mm in a short time” are also expected.
